HEBRONITES TO MEET FOR A REUNION AFTER 42 YEARS
The last cohort of teachers that qualified from the erstwhile Hebron Training College are to gather for an inaugural reunion to be held on Heritage Day, Tuesday 24 September 2024 at the Crystal Sun Water Park near Akasia outside Pretoria.
The gathering of former trainees that completed their Primary Teachers Certificate (PTC) and Junior Secondary Teachers Certificate (JSTC) in 1982 from the reputable training institution that was known across the country for producing the best teachers has been dubbed: “Reconnecting Hebronites for a celebration of the legacy & heritage of excellence and serving the nation”.
The former Training College fondly referred by its alumni as “Mmanotshe Moduane,” after the son of Kgosi Raikana More, the 1st Kgosi ya Bakwena Ba Mogopa to stay in Bethanie was known for academic excellence as well as outstanding performance in other specialisation disciplines such as sport, arts, music, culture and librarianship
The motto of the institution that was birthed from Kilnerton Training College before it relocated to Hebron village, north of Pretoria situated between Ga-Rankuwa and Mabopane was “Retla Direla” translated “We shall serve”.
Thousands of the institution’s alumni had over the years risen to prominence within the teaching profession serving as officials of the department of education, school principals, heads of departments, subject advisors, sports administrators, with some deviating to other sectors within the public service as well as the private sector, in the academia as lecturers, broadcasting, business, legal fraternity, politics and the priesthood.
With some already in retirement, others still serving within the teaching profession upholding the legacy of their alma mater and its defining motto, the reunion is expected to be a joyous bring your own braai meat and refreshments get-together to recapture fond memories.
Former Hebronites from the 1981-1882 four PTC and six JSTC classes wishing to be part of the reunion can contact Mr Jude Ngobeni @061 506 2962 or Rev Kabelo Motlogelwa @ 065 824 2582 for registration and logistical arrangements.
