MAGOGONG TRADITIONAL HEALER KILLED, SON INJURED
MAGOGONG – A wave of violence erupted in Magogong Village near Taung over the weekend, following the alleged murder of an 11-year-old girl. Enraged community members targeted an elderly traditional healer, resulting in her death and the destruction of her property.
According to Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, the girl was reported missing on 15 October 2024, and her body was discovered on 17 October. While police await the post-mortem results to confirm the cause of death, community suspicions quickly fell on the traditional healer. This led to a mob attack on 20 October, during which the healer was killed, and her home set ablaze.
The healer’s son was also assaulted in the attack and sustained serious injuries. The police have opened cases of murder and arson, but no arrests have been made so far.
The violence extended beyond the healer’s home, with a local tuck shop being looted and set on fire. Police have registered additional cases, including assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), arson, and murder.
