VRYBURG — Football fever is set to grip the agricultural town of Vryburg this Workers’ Day as retired Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs defender Fabian McCarthy, through his self-titled foundation and in collaboration with South African Football Legends, hosts a major four-day festival aimed at unearthing raw talent and promoting youth development.
The action-packed event will kick off on 1 May 2025 at Colridge Stadium, starting at 08:00. Football enthusiasts from across the region are expected to descend on the venue to witness an exciting Primary School Futsal Soccer tournament and a fiercely contested High Schools under-19 Super 16 tournament.
Beyond the local competition, the festival will provide young talents a rare opportunity to interact with legends of the game. Orlando Pirates’ DStv Diski Challenge team, led by club legend Joseph Dukuduku Makhanya, will feature prominently, inspiring the next generation of football stars.
Former Kaizer Chiefs goal-poacher Pollen “Trompies” Ndlanya and celebrated shot-stopper Brian Baloyi, along with ex-Orlando Pirates stars James Mothibi and Eddie Dinha, are also expected to mentor and scout young talent throughout the tournament.
The festivities will extend into the weekend, with distance running events — including 5km and 10km races — scheduled for the morning of the Soweto Derby. The weekend will be rounded off with a Golf Day on Sunday.
The Fabian McCarthy Foundation continues to emphasize the importance of blending education and sport, promoting academic excellence alongside athletic development.
