
North West schools scooped several trophies in the recent 2022 SA Motsepe choir competitions
NW PROVINCE SCHOOLS SHINE DURING THE ABC MOTSEPE SA SCHOOLS CHORAL EISTEDDFOD
RANDBURG – 23 school choirs from the North West province were crowned as the Best Province during the 2022 ABC Motsepe South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod (SASCE) held at Rhema Bible Church in Randburg from 28 June to 01 July 2022.
Out of 23 school choirs, The North West province managed to bring home 13 trophies in different categories such as Own choices, Gender based (Boys & girls) choirs, Special schools choirs, Small Ensembles, Solo, mixed choirs and Indigenous Forklore. Ragogang Primary school from Wolmaranstad obtained Position 1 from the Folklore, Moedwil Farm School in the Rusternburg obtained Position 1 in the Mixed Double Quartet category and Setilo Secondary School from Mareetsane Village obtained Position 1 in the Folklore category and they each walked away with a R10 000 cheque and a gold trophy. Matlosane Secondary School from Jouberton Township near Klerksdorp obtained Position 2 in the Mixed African section as well as Folkore category, Reoleboge Special School obtained Position 2 in the Own Choice category, Morokweng Primary School from Morokweng Village obtained Position 2 in the Boys Choir category, Bert Bricks Farm School obtained Position 2 in the Sextet category, Ikopanyeng Secondary School from Setlagole Village obtained Position 2 in the Mezzo Soprano category, Boitshoko Secondary School from Mafikeng obtained Position 2 in the Tenor Solo category winning themselves a R7 500 cheque and a silver trophy. Moedwil Farm School again obtained Position 3 in the Chamber Choir category and Tlamelang Special School from Gelukspan obtained position 3 in the Own Choice category. Both choirs walked away with a cheque to the value of R5 000 and a bronze trophy.
Ms Naledi Madi the school conductor for Morokweng Primary School was crowned the Best Conductor.
The MEC for Education, Mmaphefo Matsemela accompanied by the Senior Managers from the department celebrated the achievement of the province by thanking all stakeholders who supported all schools.
“To our learners, teachers, School Governing Bodies, all departmental officials and parents, I want to humbly thank you all. Together we will make ‘Ngwana Ke sejo’ realisable in the North West province. Your support cannot go unnoticed, as I am very much humbled by your support. To our teachers, . Thank you for unravelling a talent that needs to be nurtured. Thanks to all departmental officials for your understanding on what are the needs per school is so appreciated. To all the Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign communities thank you very much. ”, said MEC Matsmela. Mr Jacky Maila the former Chief Education Specialist for School Enrichment and Mr Mzwandile Mathews the Administrator for the department were both honoured an award called “Contributing towards the establishment of the SASCE in the new democratic South Africa” by the Minister of the Department of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga and Deputy Minister, Dr Reginah Mhaule.
The North West province obtained position 4 as the overall position amongst all the 9 provinces.
