RAPIST SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS
VRYBURG — After nearly a decade since the crime was committed, Seiso Clofford Shoarane has been sentenced to nine years in prison for rape. The case, marked by prolonged delays and legal hurdles, finally came to a close in the Vryburg Regional Court today.
Shoarane was found guilty in March 2023 for the rape, which took place in 2015. Throughout most of the trial, he chose to represent himself — a decision that legal observers say may have contributed to the drawn-out nature of the proceedings.
Following his conviction, Shoarane appointed a legal representative, who then requested full transcriptions of the entire trial before sentencing could proceed. That request resulted in further delays, as the court had to await the finalisation of those documents.
Today, nearly a year and three months after his conviction, Shoarane was sentenced to nine years’ imprisonment.
