
The jubilant JMMH nurses singing praises of their notable profession in celebration of the International Nurses Day.

VRYBURG – The Joe Morolong Memorial Hospital nurses recently came together to celebrate the International Nurses Day, a special day dedicated towards observing the greatness of their unique profession under the theme; A Voice to Lead; Invest in Nursing and Respect a Rights to Secure Global Health.
The celebrations which were held at the JMMH were attended by the nursing fraternity, the hospital Management and the support staff. In a spirit filled air, speaker after speaker, thanked the JMMH nurses for the hard work, dedication and passion they continue to express when serving their patients. Ms C Mokalake the front face of the JMMH told the nurses that she appreciates more their ability to display undisputed knowledge in their profession whenever they execute their duties. She encouraged them to continue being the strong, loving characters grounded in the spirit of God. Nurses in attendance were reminded of their importance in the society and urged to continue being proud of their profession. “There is a saying that goes; when a baby is born, a nurse is there, when someone dies, a nurse is there. This goes to show how important nurses are to society” said Assistant Director, Sister Mooba who delivered the Purpose of the Day.
Sister Mooba continued by calling upon the government to invest in the protection and the training as well as providing adequate resources to the nurses, as the role that they play in creating a healthy society cannot be questioned. Taking to the pulpit, the Matron of JMMH, Sister T.B.A Titus urged all the nurses to better their lives, to go back to school and to continue to grow in their profession. She noted how nursing differs from all other professions as it does not look at race, saying they attend to all patients regardless of where they come from. She asked attendants to continue practicing resilience as they continue to be exposed to extremes that the world can throw to them. “I urge you to continue to serve our people with pride and dignity, for as they come here they are afraid as they do not know if they are going to leave alive. Treat them well, with compassion.” Sister Titus said.
The Matron expressed her appreciation for the support they get from the hospital management in their understanding and giving sustenance to those who have shown interest in pursuing further studies in their profession.The Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital, Ms A. P Tlou also stressed on the importance further training, on sharing experience and investing on personal growth in the profession. She urged all the nurses to take care of their own health first, to enable them to perform their duties impeccably. She promised that the Hospital Management will do all in their power to support all those who want to enrich themselves academically. The CEO talked on the importance of internal succession (development of leadership) in the institution and stressed on the importance of respect amongst colleagues and the community they serve. She pointed out the importance of the role that all nurses play in the hospital, and told them that the Management appreciates all that they do.
“Nurses you are very important, we appreciate you, your efforts are of note, the hospital is what it is because of you.” She concluded. The nurses had a moment to remind themselves of the pledge they all took amongst of which was a promise to practice their profession with conscience and dignity. They also lit a candle in honor of all the hard work and compassion they all have to work under, despite what have to endure.
