COURT GIVES MAN 5 YEARS FOR MURDER

VRYBURG – The Vryburg Regional Court recently sentenced a 31 year old man, Goitsemodimo John Mokgweetsi, 5 years in prison for the murder of Petrus Robinson. According to the Police Spokesperson in Vryburg, Sergeant Tryphosa van Rooyen, on November 4, 2018, a fight broke out at a local tavern in Vryburg, involving the accused and the victim. Witnesses claim they managed to stop the fight between the two men.
Sergeant van Rooyen told MORONGWA that the accused left the tavern at one stage and came back brandishing a knife. He threatened the deceased, a fight resumed between the two and in the processes, Petrus was stabbed.
Emergency Medical Rescue were called to the scene of the incident and they rushed the victim to the nearest hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
A case of murder was opened at the police station, and the accused who had fled the scene of the crime was traced and arrested. He was granted bail on November 12 of the same year.  “ After countless court appearances, the accused was finally found guilty of murder on June 30, 2022” Sergeant Tryphosa said.
The Acting Police Commissioner, Colonel Mothusiotsile Kgwenyape applauded the investigating officer as well as the community in ensuring that the perpetrator is bought to book and punished for his actions. The Acting Commissioner added that the police will continue to work hard in ensuring that the community is safe.
