GANYESA – David Mathebula, aged 55, appeared before the Ganyesa and Atamelang Magistrate Court on May 25, 2023 on charges of damage to essential infrastructure, theft of tower batteries and contravention of section 49(1)(a) of the Immigration Act, 2002. He has been remanded in custody until 3 and 4th of July 2023.
The suspect court appearance emanates from his arrest of May 23rd, 2023 at Vrede by the Free State Organised Crime Unit. Information reaching MORONGWA is to the effect that, the suspect is wanted in five other Provinces for similar offences .
According to Police reports, the Free State Organised Crime Unit, stopped a suspicious vehicle in which Mathebula who is also reported to be illegal in the country, was found on the passenger seat. Upon searching the vehicle, the police found, tower batteries.
He has already appeared in the Free State and is still expected to appear in other Provinces such as Limpopo, Northern Cape, Mpumalanga and Gauteng for similar charges.
Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, the Provincial Commissioner of North West, applauded the Organised Crime Unit who were involved in the capture of the accused.
