
Tsholo-Mo, The Jungle bae. More and more women are finding their place in farming

MAHIKENG – MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, MEC Desbo Mohono has pronounced several programmes that will aim at empowering farmers in the Province.
In her Departmental budget vote presented on May 25th, 2023, MEC Desbo Mhono said her Department will roll out a mentorship programme in collaboration with the Agricultural Commodities Groups and Breeders Association in the current financial year. “A partnership with the national Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Agricultural Research Council and the North West University will see a total of 2 500 farmers being empowered through farmer training and capacity building this year.” MEC Mohono said.
The Department will also resuscitate and strengthen designated group formations such as Women in Agriculture and Rural Development and Youth in Agriculture. “Both the local and Provincial structures of the Youth in Agriculture and Rural Development and Women in Agriculture and Rural Development will be launched in June and August 2023. The Department has promised its full support for the two.” The MEC elaborated.
In addition, the Department has committed its self in contracting at least a hundred and twenty unemployed graduates through its Unemployed Agricultural Graduate Programme as part of alleviating unemployment in the Province. Once appointed, the beneficiaries will be placed in sixty four farms across the four Districts in the Province.
