MAHIKENG – The African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) says they have noted a disturbing agenda led by some of the African National Congress (ANC) “male against women” who are deployed to lead Councils as Executive Mayors/Mayors.
In a media statement release recently, the WL stated that in all the list conferences, the ANCWL “is in the forefront of demanding 50/50% on gender representation in Councils”.
“All these gains are now being reversed by the hard-core patriachists and their cheerleaders in Councils. Just in this women’s month over six women were removed as Executive Mayors and there is likelihood that they will be replaced with males. The ANCWL has just learned that Cdes Kereng Mothoagae, Boitumelo Mahlangu, Cde Betty Diakanyo, Cde Maetu Kgaile and Cde Noni Kgabi who are planned to be removed from their positions as Executive Mayors. No reasons provided by the ANC thus far”, the statement said.
The ANCWL will be consulting with all its members deployed in Councils countrywide to chart a way forward which will include our approach to the next 2021 list conferences.
“Is time for us to use our majority in the ANC and strive to take full control of all Councils in the country”, the WL said.
“The ANCWL will intensify its campaigns to promote women’s participation in every sector of public life and to strive for women’s participation in every office. We will expand our campaign outside the ANCWL and engage with other political formations to ensure that going forward we have 100% women led and controlled Councils across the country”, the statement concluded.
