VRYBURG – The Naledi Local Council have decided to NOT appoint the Accounting Officer and, opted to re-advertise the post instead.
Reliable sources have informed MORONGWA that during a virtual meeting held recently, eight ANC Councillors opted to vote with the opposition parties on the matter.
Insiders say the decision to re-advertise was a clear defiance of the mandate so given by the ruling party, ANC, instructing its Councillors to appoint the candidate who had performed outstandingly in the past interview, for post.
“Council had three candidates and it was up to Council to make a decision on who to appoint”, an insider told MORONGWA.
“Unfortunately, eight of the ANC Councillors picked the DA and the EFF team and voted against this appointment.”
It is not yet clear as to what transpired during the deliberations of the meeting.
Mr Thabo Appoulus has since been appointed to act as the Accounting Officer for the next three months while the post is to be re-advertised.
The post has been vacant since the last Municipal Manager, Mr Bloom left in 2019. Since then, there has been a number of officers acting on the position.
