VRYBURG – The James Mothibi Sports Academy recently hosted football trials at Colridge Stadium in Vryburg, drawing hundreds of young football enthusiasts eager to showcase their talent and take a step closer to their sporting dreams.
The well-attended trials catered for various age groups, ranging from under-9 to under-21, highlighting the academy’s commitment to nurturing talent from an early age through to young adulthood. Players from different areas gathered at the historic venue, creating an atmosphere filled with excitement, discipline and competitive spirit.
The academy was founded by former professional footballer Mr James Mothibi, who enjoyed a distinguished playing career with some of South Africa’s renowned clubs, including Orlando Pirates, Mpumalanga Black Aces and Maritzburg United. After years at the highest level of the game, Mothibi chose to channel his experience and knowledge into uplifting young people through sport.
Established in 2017, the James Mothibi Sports Development Academy aims to empower disadvantaged children in villages across the North West and Northern Cape. Its vision is not only to develop football skills, but also to shape well-rounded individuals who can contribute positively to society.
“The impact of our academy is significant, with children from all over the Northern Cape and North West benefiting from our programmes,” said Mothibi. “We aim to make a lasting difference in the lives of these young individuals.”
The academy’s mission extends beyond the football field. It includes access to quality sports training and development programmes, education and life-skills support, nutrition and wellness initiatives, as well as mentorship and guidance.
With initiatives such as these trials, the James Mothibi Sports Academy continues to cement its role as a beacon of hope for aspiring young footballers in the region, using sport as a powerful tool for development and social change.
