KLERKSDORP – A 35-year-old man is expected to appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court today, Monday 16 February 2026, following the fatal stabbing of a Matlosana Local Municipality Councillor on Friday.
Police were called to a tavern in Klerksdorp Central Business District (CBD) along Voortrekker Street at approximately 05:35 on 13 February. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of 46-year-old Sello Molefi lying on the ground with a stab wound to the neck. Emergency medical personnel were summoned but declared Molefi dead at the scene.
A multidisciplinary investigation was immediately launched, involving the Potchefstroom Anti-Gang Investigation Unit, Klerksdorp Detectives, and the Provincial Organised Crime Unit. Preliminary findings indicate that the councillor was allegedly stabbed during an argument reportedly linked to a dispute over a girlfriend.
Authorities have not released further details regarding the suspect’s motive or the court proceedings, but the matter is set to be heard later today.
